![]() Based on the Dodge Shadow ES Turbo, Shelby converted the stock motor into the same one used for the 86 and 87 GLHS. Although performance oriented, the CSX had slightly less radical components. Instead of previous Konis, the stock springs are replaced with high-rate, shortened ones and the shocks/struts were replaced with Monroe Formula GPs. The tubular rear anti-roll bar was replaced by a larger, solid one. Although the previous cars where solid in the brake department, the CSX had four-wheel disks adapted from the Daytona Shelby Z. And of course we can't forget the obligatory 205/50VR-15 Goodyear Gatorbacks on Shelby wheels. The interior was basic stock Shadow with the addition of a large-gripped steering wheel with Shelby logo horn button and Carroll's signature, Shelby dash plaque, "Shelby Automobiles" floor moldings, and the new blue Shelby Turbo decal on the boost gauge. The outside, in my opinion left much to be desired. Instead of adding small airdams, Shelby went with the "Boy Racer" look and added radical (for the time) front and rear airdams and sideskirts. The stock grill was replaced with one having a larger opening. Very few decals and badges were added to the exterior and they consisted of a large circular Shelby badge in the center of the rear hatch and blue Shelby CSX decals on both doors and decklid, "Intercooled" sticker on the hood, CSX decal on the grill, and a Shelby windshield decal. This gave performance numbers of: 0-60 in 7.0 seconds, Quarter mile of 15.4 seconds, and a top speed of 131 mph. If you have any information about standard equipment, please let me know. Total Production: 750. 165 were sent to Thrifty. Special thanks to Jay Newell for the specific info. |
