If you need help troubleshooting or just want to know about various turbo parts and concepts, check out Gary Donovan's Site or Russ W. Knize's MiniMopar site.

Listed below are some suggested performance modifications that you can use to make your Shelby go faster, stop quicker, or just behave better. These tips are not only partially mine but have been gleaned from many resources on the Internet as well as the Shelby Dodge Mailing List.

  • MOPAR Performance Computer - Changes the boost to allow 14psi at WOT instead of the standard 12 psi. This is without a doubt the best money that you can spend. I paid $200 for the emissions legal version from the MOPAR Performance Catalog. Better yet, get a Performance module from FWD Performance will custom program one that meets YOUR car's specs.
  • 2.5" exhaust with a new high flow catalytic converter - I would suggest no muffler (unless required by your state) since the turbo mitigates much of the exhaust note. Don't replace the exhaust without changing the cat!
  • Cut the airbox - Remove the flex tube that runs back through air box on its way to the throttle body. Use epoxy and a plastic plate to patch the hole. Then run a lower intercooler hose (from a late-model turbo) from the intercooler to the throttle body. Don't forget to add a blow-off valve to keep that turbo spinning.
  • Get a boost gauge - Absolutely required. I like to know that the boost levels are at all times. I would suggest plumbing into the MAP sensor hose that connects to the logic module. If someone has a better suggestion, let me know.
  • Get an A/F gauge. Intelitronix is one of the many brands available. Another absolute must when running in high boost situations.

Make your wheels shine! After seeing a picture of Vincent Reed's '86 GLHS, I was amazed to see how shiny his wheels are. I sent him a message asking how he did it and here is what he suggests:

You'll need to strip all the clear coat off (paint thinner), get them all clean and get ready to work your butt off. You'll need to get some Mothers Aluminum polish, a Drill, and some buffing pads. First apply the Mothers with a rag then follow that with the buffing 1 to 1-1/2 hour per wheel. Never taking the polish off, you'll want to apply polish maybe 3-4 times and keep buffing!

As always, these pages are for your information and if you have anything to add, please let me know.

Special thanks to Rick Ehrenberg for the critique and corrections.
